Description
Following the defeat within the Guadalcanal campaign, at first of 1943, the Navy Technical Department and The High Command of the Imperial Japanese Navy strived to extend the defensive potential of all their warships. Aside from usual refits of the vast majority of the Imperial Japanese Navy units, a plan was once adopted, which referred to as for reconstruction of 2 “Takao” class heavy cruisers into anti-aircraft units. Through a twist of fate only the Maya underwent such conversion. This publication shows the cruiser in her anti-aircraft configuration and briefly describes her career.
